Our Concert Series Continues This Saturday With Music From Colombia!

Those of you who came out for our first two concerts were treated to Jazz and music from West Africa. If you missed the concerts or just want to relive the experience check out these pictures in our photo album.

Summer Sunset Concerts

This Saturday join us for a concert of music from Colombia. La Cumbiamba Eneyé performs concerts with traditional instruments from the African Diaspora in Colombia. Here is a link to a flyer with more information on the band. Help us out by posting the flyer around the neighborhood and in your building. More information on the performers can also be found on their web site which also has audio samples such as this one.

Here's the where and when.

Date: Saturday, July 23rd
Time: 6:00 - 7:30pm
Place: The lawn in front of the field house at 112th and Manhattan Ave.

Our final concert of the series will take place on Aug. 13th. We will send out another email with concert details soon.

Support Our Farmers' Market

Don't those berries look great. Thanks to all who have come to our market and tried out all the great fresh produce. We have NY State cheeses, breads and lots of yummy produce. We are one of a very few farmers' markets in this area to have a stand with organically grown greens and eggs. Our farmers really need your support. Please post our flyer, shop at the market and help ensure that our market will continue to thrive.

Dates: Every Saturday through November 19th, 2005
Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm
Place: The plaza at the 110th St. and Manhattan Ave entrance to our park.

Help Our Park Continue To Be Safe And Inviting

Our park has come so far from its low point some years ago. But that's not to say we, like any park, don't have our share of problems. The 26th precinct is committed to keeping our park safe and free of illegal activity. Help them and all of us out. If you see suspicious or illegal activity in the park call the precinct at (212) 678-1311

Free Kids' Activities In Our Park

We are fortunate to have lots of planned activities for children in our park this Summer. Not only have both the Parks Dept. and City Parks Foundation come forward with programming but NY Roadrunners Foundation has also contributed by bringing a free children's running program to our park.

The running program for 5 - 10 year old kids is well under way on Tuesdays from 3:00pm - 5:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am - 11:00am. Check out these pictures of the kids using our park for their running drills. If you'd like to find out more about the program please email coach German Martinez or call him at (212) 423-2258

The Recreation Center at the north end of the park (123rd Street) hosts events on Thursday mornings. The last of those events is a Hip Hop Dance event that will take place next Thursday, July 28th at 10:30am.

The southern end of the park is not being left out! We have a whole series of kids activities planned on Tuesdays.

Dates: Tuesdays, July 26, August 2,9 and 16
Time: Activities begin at 11:00am
Place: Inside the park at 112th St. and Manhattan Ave.

Activities include Face Painting, Skating, Storytelling and a Tie-Dye Festival. Please download the flyer for details. Again please help us get the word out by posting flyers for these events.

Fall Common Ground Festival To Include Our Double Dutch Competition

With so much happening in our park it's sometimes hard to keep track of all your options for events and volunteer opportunities. We've put together yet another flyer which is a calendar of events. Keep it close at hand.

One event you won't want to miss is our annual Common Ground festival. We're busy planning a fun day with an international theme that utilizes a number of venues throughout the park.

Our very popular Double Dutch tournament will be incorporated into the activities of the day.

Enjoy The Park!
